DB Schenker is proud to employ veterans along with current Reserve and National Guard service members. Our military-ready culture is deeply intertwined with our values. At the heart of our company, we are one team carrying out our mission.
Learn more about how you can transition into a civilian career with DB Schenker — and why driving for DB Schenker may be your smartest path after your service or while continuing to serve in the Reserve or National Guard.
At DB Schenker, we know that you’ve put in your time, and the last thing you need are barriers transitioning to civilian life. We work hard to make your transition to your new civilian career as smooth as possible.
Here are key elements of our Military to Commercial Program.
While a veteran recruiting program can get you in the door, it’s a fair and vibrant culture that gets our drivers to stick around for the long haul.
We offer Over the Road (OTR), Regional, Dedicated, and Local Routes. Unlike many other trucking companies, we don’t force you to drive OTR as your only choice as a new team member. You can absolutely drive local or dedicated routes after initial training.
Similarly, we don’t require you to team up with an experienced driver for a long period of time.
Our broad footprint across the country means that our recruiters can talk to you about hiring areas that meet YOUR needs, whether it’s back home or relocating to another state with more opportunity.
We pay our employees competitive market rates. We don’t claim that veterans “have no real-world experience” in order to pay you less during your training, forcing you to use your Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits to make up the difference. We believe if you’re doing good work, you deserve nothing less than a competitive wage.
All veterans joining the DB Schenker team earn money from the start of their training. After a brief introductory period, you’ll earn pay that is determined by your DB Schenker division (Dedicated, Regional, OTR, or Local). Contact us to learn more about your potential income as a DB Schenker driver.
We absolutely do not require that you sign a contract to stay with DB Schenker. You decide how long you want to drive with us.
Note that any tuition reimbursement payments require that you be employed with DB Schenker.
The safety of our drivers is paramount, and we invest in our fleet and programs with the goal of keeping our drivers out of harm’s way.
We equip our tractor trailers with front and rear collision avoidance technology, critical event recorders, and Geotab realtime communication systems. We offer training and counseling, which work together with our awareness campaigns to help reduce safety risks. Our Safe Drive Recognition Program rewards drivers who have successfully navigated their miles with no safety incidents.
DB Schenker has earned its reputation as a top transportation partner to a long list of customers — including Fortune 100 companies — who count on our experience, efficiency, and reliability. We transport cargo all across America and even cross-border for many industries, including automotive, food and beverage, retail, and industrial goods.
Our transportation network truly keeps America moving, and it comes down to our drivers striving every day to deliver superior service. We know our veteran drivers fit in with our culture of accountability, execution, and safety, because this is what you’ve lived already. We also value communication and being one team, with one goal.
